About

In Medias Res

adverb - formal, from Latin

Meaning “in the middle of things.” A narrative technique that bypasses backstory and starts at a pivotal moment, then moves in and out between past and present to reveal the origin story.

At age 40, after almost two decades of working as a graphic designer and marketing professional in the Southern California commercial real estate market, I returned to school for a career in education. As I was finishing up undergad, I started to read my poetry around town and present at research conferences, when friends and family began asking to read my work. I started this blog to share my writing and journey with them.

My intention is not to influence anyone’s perspective. I simply love to write and want to share my Chicana voice and experiences, past and present, in no particular order.

Laura Espinoza, Chicana, born and raised in East Los Angeles
